Another night in Emerg (there must be a song title in there somewhere!)
Yesterday started as a normal day with two medical appointments scheduled. The first was with the thrombosis doctor and went without a hitch when it was decided that Clint will stay on the lower dose of blood thinner.
The second was with the oncologist and wasn’t as straightforward. He was worried about Clint’s weakness and felt he should admitted to hospital as a safer place to be than home. He thinks that it’s possible that the tumours have spread and gave us dates next week for scans and an MRI to see what’s going on.
We agreed to let them give Clint some intravenous fluids and take some blood to do tests. They felt that his haemoglobin levels were too low and he needed a blood transfusion which meant going down to Emerg (Mt. Sinai).
At Emerg they took an x-ray which showed there is no more fluid in the lungs and no signs of a bleed, but went ahead and gave him 2 units of haemoglobin. Kind friends with a small van (which is easier for Clint to get in and out of) picked us up at the hospital at about midnight and brought us home.
I wish I could say that Clint was a little stronger today, but I’m afraid he’s still very weak. After talking to the social worker at Mt. Sinai, we are signed up to get palliative care which will mean we will get some help looking after Clint at home.
You are welcome to come for short visits, but may find Clint asleep so you may end up having to visit with me or Karen!
Thanks for all the supportive emails and phone calls-I may not be able to respond to all of them, but we appreciate them just the same.
My sister and mother are coming from England on December 17 for 3 weeks, so we hope to spend some family time together.

I would thank you from the bottom of my heart, but for you my heart has no bottom.

  2. Dear Clint and Sue,
Peter and I are sending lots of positive energy your way.
It sounds like you have lots of company and lots of assistance so we will leave you to your rest and simply send love and light. No need to get up and answer the door, it will arrive unannounced and just let itself in.
    love and light,
    debra and peter
