Welcome to Clint and Sue’s healing journey. We have set up this blog so we can keep you, our friends and family informed about our journey, allowing you to take part in whatever way you feel you would like to. You may choose to just read the blog, but we invite you to inspire us with your positive input.
Most of you know that Clint has been diagnosed with stage 4 esophageal cancer which has spread to his lungs, adrenal glands and liver. Since the cancer is aggressive so is the treatment- 3 rounds chemotherapy each of 3 weeks for a total of 9 weeks after which time they will do scans to see how well the treatment has worked. We are very positive that the outcome will be a good one.
During this healing journey we want to keep our life as normal as possible so we hope you will continue to visit us and invite us to visit you-being around friends and family will make our journey a positive one. Although I’ve never been a fan of people dropping in without warning (I always worry that the house is untidy!) it may be the best way to see Clint, as most of the time he feels too tired to visit other people. We cannot make plans in advance much beyond a couple of hours as we don’t know from hour to hour how Clint will be feeling. Most visits will have to be short as Clint becomes tired very quickly. As the chemo drugs will lower his immune system we have to make sure he doesn’t get sick, so if you have a cold we would ask you not to visit.
Joy and laughter increase endorphins for healing. We are looking for suggestions for romantic comedies you may have enjoyed, the more endorphins we can release the better! If you have any books you could recommend please suggest them (cancer or non cancer specific.)
If you want to learn more about cancer and its treatment, the cancer society has a website with lots of useful information. They are at www.cancer.ca. We are also looking into a program called The Healing Journey which can be found at www.healingjourney.ca/
I have some photos of Clint enjoying life. We find looking at them and talking about some of the great places we have been and the fun we have had, helps to keep us positive. Rather than clog up the blog, they can be seen on my flick site at www.flickr.com/photos/suecan if you are interested. We hope to keep having fun for many more years!
Please send positive thoughts our way- prayers, novenas, chants, mantras, drums-we’ll accept them all.
