Apologies to all those people who have tried to reach me today-I put in a marathon 12 hour day at the hospital, not getting home until after 11PM.
I think they will probably ban me from all Toronto hospitals after today when I had another meltdown! It is the same story as the one from Mt Sinai - nobody telling us anything and when they did, it contradicted the thing that the previous person had told us.
It’s pretty sad that the only way to get attention is to cry, scream and shout. They treat you as if you are stupid and could never understand the long words they use. I even had to point out to one of the doctors that they make a mockery of the large sign on the wall that reads AN INFORMED PATIENT IS A SAFER PATIENT.
Well to cut a long story short (you can read the full version in the book I plan to write!) Clint finally had the talc procedure done which was done at the bedside by one doctor and took about ten minutes at the most. She inserted the talc through the chest tube that had been draining the fluid, from tubes that looked suspiciously like DAP. This procedure, if successful, will close up the pleural cavity, thereby not allowing any more fluid in. Hopefully the fluid stops being produced once it doesn’t have a cavity to fill.
The doctor that did the procedure also looked at Clint’s knee which has been giving him incredible pain and she pronounced it very swollen and hot (very perceptive of her- we have told at least 5 other doctors the same thing!) She has asked for it to be looked at tomorrow by an orthopedic person and fluid drained from it.
Clint is taking heavy duty pain killers and has been seeing cats and dogs in the ward, mind you he thinks he’s in Bosnia, so I guess that makes sense!
What a roller coaster ride. I hope things are on the upturn now.
Thanks again for all the support.
