Sudbury's Freemen have grazed their cattle in summer on these ancient pastures for over 900 years; they were recorded as water meadows in the Domesday survey of 1086. Today the common lands still provide grazing, but a variety of other habitats have been developed for wild birds, animals and flowers. There is an excellent network of paths crossing the common lands for visitors to enjoy.

If you have been to our house, you may have seen the panoramic photo of the water-meadows printed on canvas.

Today Jennie, Pearl and I scattered some of our beloved Clint’s ashes over the water-meadows in Sudbury, Suffolk. He loved these meadows and we have walked them many times over the years. He even wrote to the local newspaper giving his opinion in a fight to save the lives of two highland cattle, Hughie and Dewey who were slated to be killed, but were later saved.
We think it is a fitting resting place for his ashes.
